Kenny Dorham added stellar entries to the catalogs of Blue Note, Riverside, and New Jazz throughout the 1950s as he solidified his reputation as a leading trumpeter and composer on the jazz scene. He began 1961 in the studio for Blue Note recording his excellent album Whistle Stop and later that year cut his first date for Pacific Jazz, Inta Somethin’, a spirited live recording that captured Dorham leading a quintet with alto saxophonist Jackie McLean, pianist Walter Bishop Jr., bassist Leroy Vinnegar, and drummer Art Taylor at The Jazz Workshop in San Francisco. The band is firing on all cylinders throughout this set of four standards bookended by the Dorham originals “Us” and “San Francisco Beat.” A buoyant version of “It Could Happen To You” is performed quartet as a Dorham showcase, while the trumpeter lays out on “Let’s Face The Music And Dance” and “Lover Man” to give the spotlight to McLean.
Recorded in 1956 for producer Tom Wilson’s short-lived Boston-based label Transition Records, Watkins At Large was the first of only two albums that the great bassist Doug Watkins would make as a leader. The Detroit native had moved to New York and begun to garner recognition for his contributions to the Art Blakey-Horace Silver co-led iteration of the Jazz Messengers as well as Bud Powell’s trio when Wilson decided to give him the opportunity to front his own recording date. Along with a first-rate ensemble featuring trumpeter Donald Byrd, tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, guitarist Kenny Burrell, pianist Duke Jordan, and drummer Art Taylor, Watkins swings through a stellar set of blues, ballads, and more including originals written by Jordan, Burrell, and Thad Jones.
Following the success of his debut, Vandross continued his musical journey as part of the American singing group Luther, with the release of This Close to You, on March 23, 1977. This second studio album further solidified his status in the music industry, highlighting his exceptional skills as a lead vocalist, writer, and producer. The album’s blend of soulful melodies and moving lyrics captured the hearts of fans and critics alike, propelling Luther Vandross to stardom.
The story of Loverboy is akin to a Hollywood movie. Overcoming rejection to eventually become one of Canada's most successful rock bands of all time and selling millions of albums in the process, is a feel-good story for the ages.
For more than 40 years, Loverboy has been “Working For The Weekend” (and on the weekend), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1979, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean – both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene – at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, Loverboy still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.
With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning several multi-platinum awards. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working For The Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “The Kid Is Hot Tonight”, “Take Me To The Top”, “Turn Me Loose”, “Jump” and many more. In 2009, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
“Live In ’82” showcases one of their most incredible live performances. Lovingly restored from Paul Dean's personal archive of 16mm film, the joyous energy of a band who helped define the golden era of 80's music is captured like lightning in a bottle. Colourful clothing, outrageous hairstyles (and headbands!), terrific movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and great music that has stood the test of time.
Paul Dean summed it up best: "The 1980s was an amazing time, but it’s still amazing now”, he grins. “The fact that Loverboy are still together and playing these same songs almost every night - Who’d have thought?”

"This record is called Multitudes. It is a cognate, meaning that it’s spelled identically and has the same meaning in both Spanish and English. It took months to land upon this title, because no word felt like it could contain the multitudes of these 12 songs - songs of grief, love, fear, anger, and a constant search for belonging. I love this album with all my heart. So much has changed since my last album came out. I almost left music behind, and then won the NPR Tiny Desk contest. I traveled the world. I lost loved ones. I learned a lot, often the hard way. Many tears and many hugs were involved in the making of this album. If you love it, please share it. This job is very difficult. Knowing that you are listening gives me the strength to go on."
Gemelo is the new album from songwriter and pop auteur Angélica Garcia. Its title is a reference to the twin self – the idea of a second, more intuitive self within. It’s a vibrant, prismatic hybrid-pop record that soundtracks a journey through the different stages and forms of grief. Angélica explores its inherent loneliness, beauty, and tension, eventually finding liberation. Gemelo also expertly deconstructs facets of universal themes like religion, spirit, heritage, and womanhood.
Forever features 12 new songs from one of history’s most iconic bands, Bon Jovi, including the lead single, “Legendary.”

Countin' The Miles [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Autographed, Transparent Camo LP]
Vinyl: $28.98 Buy
For singer/songwriter Jesse Daniel, country music is nothing short of a life force. Hailing from a rural mountain town on California’s Central Coast, the Austin-based artist first explored his innate passion for music by playing drums in punk bands, then drifted down a troubled path that included years of battling addiction and spending time in and out of jail and rehab. As he took his first steps toward getting clean, Daniel immersed himself in the pure joy of writing country songs, fully embracing the unbridled vitality of California country and bringing a lived-in honesty to his lyrical storytelling. Since releasing his 2018 self-titled debut on his own record label, he’s earned great esteem as a country traditionalist and built a wildly devoted international following—thanks in no small part to his freewheeling live show and tendency to tour nearly 200 days a year. Recently signed to Lightning Rod Records, Daniel now offers up his fourth studio album Countin’ The Miles: a high-powered body of work born from his ardent belief in preserving country’s legacy.
A cornerstone of the Arbutus catalogue, this deluxe LP features a multi-page photo zine, huge party poster, and sky blue colour vinyl. TOPS were formed in Montreal in 2011 when song-writing duo David Carriere and Jane Penny decided to join forces with drummer Riley Fleck. Delivering a raw punk take on AM studio pop, Picture You Staring is a lush array of timelessly crafted songs. Singer Jane Penny gives a new voice to the silent girl at the edge of the circle, disillusioned but honest and unpretentious, a tone complemented by David Carriere's seamless guitar playing and the measured drumming of Riley Fleck. TOPS' subtle arrangements are delivered with a cool restraint that blend with the individuality and self-assured desire of their female lead. Picture You Staring gathers strength through intimacy.
Self-written, recorded and produced at Arbutus Records' studio in Montreal over the course of a year, this album contains 12 impeccable examples of pop craftsmanship that will reward repeat listeners.
New 2024 pressing on ATO Records. Yellow and green vinyl with a red splatter. Young Blindness followed The Murlocs' 2014 debut LP "Loopholes", built upon a solid foundation of distorted licks and melodic intuition. The hearty compositions are emboldened by the distinct vocal tremolo of singer Ambrose Kenny-Smith. Lyrically, themes of young paranoia and self-doubt are viewed through a lens of experience, exploring the blurred meeting point with an air of blues-borne world-weariness.
The first live release from The Murlocs is a career-spanning 22 song set recorded at The Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. The show capped off a busy 2022 for the Melbourne-based band, which saw the release of their 6th album (Rapscallion) as well as a performance at Red Rocks (supporting King Gizzard, with whom the band share two members) and their biggest US headlining tour to date. "Live at The Teragram Ballroom" features "Rolling On", "Noble Soldier" & more. Pressed on green splatter vinyl.

"Light Of Death" is the 15 song sophomore album from Umbra Vitae. Recorded by Kurt Ballou and Zach Weeks at God City Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. "Leave Of Absence" emerges with a spine-chilling violin swell before erupting into duel guitar driven madness courtesy of Sean Martin (Twitching Tongues, ex-Hatebreed) and Mike McKenzie (The Red Chord). Umbra Vitae stay redlined with "Belief Is Obsolete" and "Clear Cutter", showcasing the electrifying rhythm section of Jon Rice (Uncle Acid, Tsjuder) and Greg Weeks (The Red Chord). Hook-laden "Anti-Spirit Machine" then takes center stage as a war cry for the downtrodden. From here Umbra Vitae continue to smash and thrash everything in sight. The discordant "Reality In Retrograde" races with a grinding blur into the lumbering "Past Tense" and darkly seductive "Velvet Black". Two songs that are metallic heaviness incarnate. "Twenty-Twenty Vision", "Algorithm Of Fear", and "Empty Vessel" then pick up the intensity, propelled by the poignant lyrical themes and inhuman vocal deliveries of Jacob Bannon (Converge). Lastly, the trinity of slow-crawl "Cause & Effect", ultra-violent "Deep End", and whirlwind "Nature vs. Nurture" continue to bludgeon, ushering in the interlinked "Fatal Flaw" and "Light Of Death" as the vicious finale to this modern metal masterpiece.
