Vanilla Fudge (1967-1970) has been cited as one of the few American links between psychedelia and what became heavy metal. After forming hard-rock/metal bands Cactus (1970) and Beck, Bogert & Appice (1972) the Vanilla Fudge founder members Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice reunited the band again which resulted in 'Mystery' (with Jeff Beck, who guested under the moniker J. Toad). 'Mystery' contains only 2 covers and 8 original Vanilla Fudge songs. The Supremes' "My World Is Empty" and a great version of Dionne Warwick's hit "Walk On By". 'Mystery' is a sonic masterpiece. The songs are strong, filled with emotion and the Fudge never sounded better with Carmine Appice' hard and punchy drums and great vocals. 'Mystery' never sounds dated!
